African American Actor – Larenz Tate

Larenz Tate, born September 8, 1975 in Chicago, Illinois, is an African American actor. He has starred in movies such as Menace II Society, The Inkwell, A Man Apart and Dead Presidents. He is the youngest of the three Tate Brothers.

In a relatively short span of time, Larenz Tate has earned a reputation as one of the most promising young actors in Hollywood. He has been noted for his fine performances, including a Best Actor NAACP Image Award nomination for his role in Theodore Witcher’s “Love Jones”. Tate starred opposite Nia Long in this love story which won the Audience Award for Best Film at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival. Tate also received the Best Actor Award in 1999 at the Acapulco Black Film Festival for his portrayal as the 1950’s doo wop singer Frankie Lymon in “Why Do Fools Fall in Love.” The Warner Bros. film also starred Halle Berry, Lela Rochon, and Vivica A. Fox.

Larenz made his feature film debut in the Allen and Albert Hughes drama “Menace II Society”, followed by starring roles in the “Inkwell”, “Dead Presidents”, Ashanti’s “Rain On Me” music video and appearing in the critically acclaimed “Ray” starring Jamie Foxx.

Tate’s aspirations go beyond being in front of the camera to producing behind the scenes. He now adds Executive Producer to his credits for the Independent feature film “Love Come Down” which stars Tate and R & B singer Deborah Cox.

Larenz along with brothers Lahmard & Larron Tate wrote, produced, directed, and financed their indie comedy “The Hot Spot” straight to DVD through Xenon Pictures.

Canadian Actor – Kevin Zegers

Kevin Zegers was born on September 19, 1984 in Ontario Canada. He has two sisters, Katie and Krista, and two very proud parents: Jim and Mary Ellen.

Kevin Zegers

If you rent the film “Life With Mikey” you will have the chance to see Kevin’s very first film role as none other than little Mikey on the television series! Of course, Kevin went on to star in many more television and film projects.

When talking about High School, Kevin says that it really wasn’t a problem being well known there. Kevin is still acting and hopes to “maybe direct some day. I also want to get into Sports Medicine and maybe travel with a professional team as a trainer.” Kevin’s advice to young actors is simple: “Three years after I started acting, I went a whole year of auditioning like crazy and didn’t get booked on any of them. Just when I wanted to quit, I landed a lead in a film and haven’t stopped working since.” And what role does Kevin consider his favorite? He couldn’t pick just one, but has to say one of them is “It Came From The Sky” where he played the part of a 13-year-old that had suffered from oxygen deprivation. He also thinks his first coming-of-age film, “Four Days” was a great character with a dark personality with a lot of baggage.

About his appearance on Aaron Spelling’s “Titans” – Kevin reported when he joined the cast that “I had a great time with the dogs and the monkeys, but it’s gonna be real cool to work with all these good actors too,” says Kevin, referring to Titans’ human cast. Titans was cancelled by NBC, but Kevin isn’t too heart-broken to be heading back to his hometown in Canada. “I find it difficult [Hollywood], and I don’t feel much like ass-kissing, which is why I like to come home as much as possible. People here are just real.”

Zegers says he plans to keep going to school, to become either a teacher or doctor. “I need something to fall back on. I see me doing this for a while, but I want to have a family and kids someday, and I don’t think this industry has a very good family atmosphere,” he says. “When all is said and done I’m going to be living in Canada with a wife and kids, hopefully.”

Most Talented Hollywood Actor – Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, England on January 13, 1977. (In Spanish, Orlando translates to “Land of Gold.”) The man he briefly knew as his father, Harry Bloom, was a legendary political activist who fought for civil rights in South Africa. But Harry died of a stroke when Orlando was only four years old. After that, Orlando and his older sister Samantha were raised by their mother, Sonia, and family friend, Colin Stone. When Orlando was 13, Sonia revealed to him that Colin was actually his biological father.

Orlando attended St. Edmunds School in Canterbury, but struggled in many courses because of dyslexia. He did embrace the arts, however, and enjoyed pottery, photography and sculpturing. He also participated in school plays and was active at his local theater. As a teen, Orlando landed his first job he was a clay trapper at a pigeon shooting range. Encouraged by his mother, he and his sister began studying poetry and prose, eventually giving readings at Kent Festival. Orlando and Samantha won many poetry and Bible reciting competitions. Then Orlando, who always idolized larger-than-life characters, gravitated towards serious acting. At the age of 16, he moved to London and joined the National Youth Theatre, spending two seasons there and gaining a scholarship to train with the British American Drama Academy. Like many young actors, he also auditioned for a number of television roles to further his career, landing bit parts in British television shows “Casualty”, “Midsomer Murders” and “Smack the Pony”. He even appeared in the critically acclaimed movie “Wilde”.

He then attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. It was there, in 1998, that Orlando fell three stories from a rooftop terrace and broke his back. Despite fears that he would be permanently paralyzed, he quickly recovered and returned to the stage. As fate would have it, seated in the audience one night in 1999 was a director named Peter Jackson. After the show, he met with Orlando and asked him to audition for his new set of movies. After graduating from Guildhall, Orlando began work on the Lord of the Rings, spending 18 months in New Zealand bringing to life “Legolas”, a part which would make him a household name. Today Orlando is one of the busiest and most sought after actors in the industry.
